A federal judge on Thursday rejected Trump White House official Peter Navarro’s request to remain out of prison while appealing his contempt of Congress conviction, ordering Navarro to begin his four-month prison sentence for defying a House Jan. 6 committee subpoena.
Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison in January.
U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta said in a court filing Navarro “shall report to the designated” Bureau of Prisons facility on the date the bureau orders unless the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals vacates the decision.
The order did not specify where or when Navarro must report.
Mehta sentenced Navarro to four months in prison—along with a $9,500 fine—on Jan. 25 on two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House Jan. 6 Committee.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
