Joseph Biggs—a former leader of the Proud Boys—was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Thursday, according to multiple reports, over three months after he and three other members of the far-right group were convicted of seditious conspiracy and other charges for their involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
Joseph Biggs (right) was sentenced to 17 years in prison for his involvement in the January 6 riot.
Judge Timothy Kelly ruled that Bigg’s actions on January 6 qualified for a terrorism enhancement, according to the Washington Post, after Biggs removed the fence that stood between rioters and the Capitol building.
Biggs was convicted of seditious conspiracy alongside Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio and members Ethan Nordean and Zachary Rehl in May.
