


Over the past few days, Brazil, Bulgaria, Greece, Spain and Turkey have been inundated with torrential rainfall that has done considerable damage and turned fatal for some, as scientists warn flooding could intensify due to global warming.
Flooding in Brazil claimed the lives of nearly 30 and left thousands without homes.
BRAZIL: An extratropical cyclone, which occurs when cold and hot air masses interact, struck Brazil and killed up to 27 people, destroyed about 70 structures, displaced nearly 3,100 people and left nearly 2,300 people without homes, the governor of Rio Grande do Sul said Wednesday.
BULGARIA: The Guardian reported that flooding was to blame for damaged bridges and roads, power outages and two deaths in Bulgaria.
GREECE: Storm Daniel showered nearly 30 inches of rain across the Pelion region of Greece on Tuesday and Wednesday and left at least one person dead, the Weather Channel reported; the U.K. Met Office said Tuesday was Greece’s wettest day on record.
SPAIN: A system with torrential rainfall hit Spain on Sunday afternoon, damaging crops, public facilities and roads, officials said, as authorities search for two missing people.
TURKEY: Flooding in Istanbul caused the deaths of at least two, Turkish Prime Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Tuesday on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, with authorities still searching for three others.
This extratropical cyclone is the latest in a string of weather disasters to hit Brazil.
