Federal prosecutors obtained a search warrant for former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account earlier this year for their investigation into Trump’s post-election conduct, but the site was fined $350,000 and held in contempt by a judge after it failed to turn over information on time, court documents revealed Wednesday—a week after Trump was criminally charged.

Twitter delayed handing over the information that was requested while it “unsuccessfully litigated” an order not to disclose the warrant to Trump, according to a federal appeals court filing.
Twitter later complied with the warrant in February, but not until three days after the court-ordered deadline, leading to $350,000 in fines from a judge—a decision that was upheld by a panel of appellate court judges in a filing released Wednesday.
