There are some dynamic pairs of impact hitters on 2023 Major League Baseball teams.

The Braves feature Ronald Acuna Jr. and Matt Olson.

The Angels have Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani

The Cardinals Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt form quite a tandem.

Few teams, however, have gotten the consistent, game-changing production and leadership of the Los Angeles Dodgers combination of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

Despite issue after issue impacting their roster, Betts and Freeman may be putting the Dodgers on their collective backs and carrying them to a dynamic postseason.

The Dodgers remain the leader in the National League West despite some very serious setbacks and issues that would challenge any team.

Dodgers left-handed starting pitcher, Julio Urias, 27, was arrested September 3. He is facing felony domestic violence charges.

It marks the second arrest for Urias in the past four years.

Urias was released on a $50,000 bond, and must appear in a Los Angeles court September 27. He has been placed on Administrative Leave.

The 6-0, 225 pound lefty has been assuming a role as a top Dodgers rotation starter.

As if the Urias arrest isn’t enough, injuries continue to haunt the Dodgers.

One of their top producing hitters, veteran J.D. Martinez, is disabled with a strained groin.

Gavin Lux, who was scheduled to assume the shortstop role this year, hasn’t played due to knee surgery.

Pitcher Walker Buehler, a potential ace of the pitching staff, had Tommy John surgery in September 2022. Buehler is in the midst of a rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He hopes to still return this season, using a new windup.

Recently, starter Tony Gonsolin was lost to the rotation as well. He, too, has now required September 1 Tommy John surgery.

Starter Michael Grove is out with a strained lat.

Dustin May, who has battled injuries in his career, had flexor tendon surgery in July.

Clayton Kershaw is pitching through a sore shoulder.

Eight Dodgers relievers are disabled with a litany of injuries.

Despite all that adversity, the Dodgers and manager Dave Roberts have not only survived, they have surged to an insurmountable lead in the National League West.

Led by tremendous success at home, the Dodgers could once again surpass 100 wins for the season.

Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-1 during a baseball game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

It is hard to believe that right-handed hitting Mookie Betts, 30, generates as much power and impact from his slight, 5-9, 180 pound frame.

Betts now has 38 homers for the season.

Betts doesn’t only hit home runs. He has 36 doubles, and a triple as well this year. He has driven in 99 runs in 605 plate appearances covering 132 games.

In August, Betts hit an unreal .455 with 51 hits. He smoked 11 home runs. He led all of Major League Baseball in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, home runs, total bases, and runs scored. Amazing!

But Mookie wasn’t alone in carrying the Dodgers to their current lofty position.

Freddie Freeman is the other part of the Dodgers dynamic duo wrecking crew.

Freeman, 33, adds a left-handed hitting presence behind lead off hitter Betts in the Dodgers lineup.

At 6-5, 220 pounds, Freeman is a big, and powerful first baseman.

Last year Freeman hit a career best 47 doubles. He has surpassed that this year, having already hit 51.

Freeman has scored 111 runs. He has added 25 homers, and 90 RBIs.

Clearly, there are other Dodgers hitters contributing to their winning ways.

Will Smith is among the best hitting catchers in the game. He has 17 homers, and 67 RBIs.

Max Muncy has been a force, with 32 homers and 91 RBIs in his terrific year for the Dodgers.

When the 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers season is reviewed, with position player injuries, the arrest of a star pitcher, and a pitching staff that has been in flux due to countless serious injuries, the impact of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman will be the centerpieces of the discussion.

It is difficult to believe the team would be anywhere near their current position in the standings without the All World seasons of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.
