The social media ban bill would have prevented children under the age of 16 from creating social media accounts on platforms that track user activity or feature “addictive features,” while social media companies would have been required to delete accounts in the state for those under 16.
DeSantis announced his veto in a tweet, saying the state legislature is “about to produce a different, superior bill.”
“Protecting children from harms associated with social media is important, as is supporting parents’ rights and maintaining the ability of adults to engage in anonymous speech.”
