Democratic candidate Tom Suozzi Tuesday won a special election for a Congressional seat in New York, vacated by the expulsion of former Rep. George Santos, in an important win that further narrows the GOP’s already slim House majority.

The Associated Press called the race for Suozzi at around 10:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday evening, just an hour after polls closed.

With more than 93% of the votes counted, Suozzi was leading with 54% of the votes, while Republican opponent Mazi Pilip had received 46%.
