“Deadpool & Wolverine” continued to dominate at the box office over Labor Day weekend, holding onto the top spot for a fifth time as it’s expected to surpass a total of $600 million at the domestic box office, multiple outlets reported Sunday—extending its reign as the second-biggest movie of the year.

Ryan Reynold and Hugh Jackman’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” will gross an estimated $19.5 million from Friday through Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which brought its domestic total to around $603.8 million.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” will become just the sixth-ever superhero film to gross more than $600 million at the domestic box office and the 16th film ever to do so, without adjusting for inflation, Variety reported.
“Alien: Romulus” added about $11.8 million to its gross through Monday and took the second spot over the weekend, followed by “It Ends With Us” which added $9.5 million, and “Reagan,” a Ronald Reagan biographical drama that debuted this weekend and grossed about $9 million from Friday to Monday, Deadline reported.

66%. That’s the percentage of people who saw “Reagan”—which stars Dennis Quaid as Ronald Reagan and is based on the book “The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism”—who were over the age of 55, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which called the high percentage “unheard of.”
“Deadpool & Wolverine” has been in theaters for six weekends, but has only held the no. 1 spot for five. It was dethroned in its fourth week by “Alien: Romulus,” the ninth “Alien” film to be released. “Alien: Romulus” had a $41.5 million domestic opening that weekend, marking the second-best ever for the series, and it has continued its success, grossing an estimated $293.5 million worldwide, which is the second-best of any of the franchise’s films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Inside Out 2”—which had a domestic gross of $648 million and broke a number of records—led the summer box office this year, closely followed by “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The summer was also helped by “Despicable Me 4,” which grossed $351 million domestically, and “Twisters,” which grossed $253 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo. Despite the major success of some films, this year’s summer box office is expected to finish at about $3.6 billion, which is about a half-billion less than last year’s $4.09 billion, according to Deadline. But even though it’s not as much as last year, the summer box office was an improvement from the struggles of the spring box office, which saw a gross of $1.2 billion—down nearly 25% from last year—and was led by “Dune: Part Two,” according to BoxOfficeMojo. The tough start to this year’s box office was largely due to the “lack of steady product” following last year’s Hollywood strikes, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which is expected to be less of an issue going forward.
