The Dallas Mavericks announced the re-signing of veteran forward/center Markieff Morris on Saturday. Morris adds additional size to the Mavericks’ frontcourt, a point of emphasis for the team during the offseason.

Last season with the Mavericks, Morris appeared in eight games, including one start, and averaged 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.8 minutes. He had an overall field goal percentage of 42.4% and connected on 36.4% of his three-point attempts.

Morris originally joined Dallas on February 6, 2023. The Brooklyn Nets traded him and All-Star guard Kyrie Irving to the Mavericks in exchange for guard Spencer Dinwiddie, forward Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2027 second-round draft pick, a 2029 first-round draft pick and a 2023 second-round draft pick.

Morris has career averages of 10.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 24.1 minutes over 750 games, including 378 starts, with the Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, Los Angles Lakers, Miami Heat, Brooklyn and Dallas.

With the addition of Morris, the Mavericks’ roster currently stands at 18 players. NBA teams can carry up to 21 players during the offseason. Teams must pair that number down to 15 before the start of the regular season. They can also have three players on two-way contracts during the season.

Morris will wear No. 88 for the Mavericks.
