The Dallas Mavericks continue to shuffle the end of their bench as they prepare for their final preseason game against the Detroit Pistons on Friday. Monday, the team announced signing 6-foot-five guard Taze Moore to its training camp roster.
Moore went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft and played with Dallas’ G League affiliate, Texas Legends, during the 2022-23 season. He averaged 10.8 points on 49.3% shooting, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 39 games with the Legends.
More recently, Moore played for the Mavericks’ Summer League team last July. He averaged 7.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists off the bench in five games while shooting 60% from the field.
The addition of Moore comes days after the Mavericks cut several players. On Saturday, the team announced that it waived guards Mike Miles Jr., Jordan “Jelly” Walker and combo guard-forward Joe Wieskamp.
Miles signed a two-way contract with Dallas on July 14 after a strong showing with the club in Summer League, where he averaged 12.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. However, due to an illness, he did not play in any of the team’s preseason games overseas.
Walker and Weiskamp both signed exhibit-10 contracts with the Mavericks on August 14, and both appeared in the three preseason games overseas. Walker averaged 5.7 points and 1.7 assists in 8.1 minutes, while Weiskamp scored three points in Dallas’ preseason opener but did not score in the following two games. He averaged 3.8 minutes per game.
With Moore, Dallas’ roster now stands at 19 players. The Mavericks must cut that number to 15 before the start of the regular season.
NBA teams can also carry three players on two-way contracts during the regular season, up from two. AJ Lawson is currently the only player with a two-way contract for Dallas.
