Jung Kook (Big Hit Music)

Big Hit Music

After years spent as a member of one of the biggest bands in the world, BTS's Jung Kook is stepping out on his own and quickly showing the world that he is a hitmaker in his own right. Now, one week after his debut solo single "Seven" was released, the singer has made history in one of the largest music markets in the world with an immediate smash.

"Seven" debuts at No. 3 on this week's U.K. songs chart, making it the highest launch of the frame and instantly becoming a historic win for the singer. The song's success has rewritten the ranking of the most successful tracks by solo stars from his home country, South Korea.

"Seven" now holds the title of the second-highest-charting song by a South Korean soloist in U.K. history, sitting just behind the iconic "Gangnam Style" by Psy, which dominated the chart more than a decade ago. Psy's global hit officially kicked off the K-pop craze that has taken the world by storm ever since.

Previously, fellow BTS singer Jimin held the record for the second-highest-charting song ever by a solo musician from South Korea with his hit "Like Crazy," which debuted and peaked at No. 8 earlier this year. However, Jung Kook's "Seven" has now surpassed him, marking a significant achievement in his solo career.

"Seven" is now only the fourth song by a South Korean musician working outside of a group to break into the top 10 of the U.K. songs chart. Alongside "Gangnam Style" and "Like Crazy," Psy's follow-up single "Gentleman" also rose as high as No. 10 a decade ago.

Although "Seven" missed out on the highest spot on the tally by just two rungs, coming in behind Dave and Central Cee's "Sprinter," which continues its winning streak with a seventh frame in charge of the list. Steady in second place once again is Olivia Rodrigo's "Vampire," which has yet to conquer the tally.

The success of "Seven" has pushed Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer" down to No. 4, as the electro-pop cut falls one space on the chart. Jung Kook's debut single has demonstrated his ability to capture the hearts of fans and music enthusiasts worldwide, proving that he is a force to be reckoned with even as a solo artist.
