Jung Kook (Big Hit Music)
History is being made on this week’s Billboard Global 200 chart as BTS's Jung Kook claims the top position with his debut solo single, "Seven." The talented singer's remarkable accomplishment marks a pivotal moment in his career, as he is now only the second South Korean solo musician to appear in the peak position on the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the world. This new track brings him back to the summit, his first time on his own, following BTS's numerous chart-topping successes.
Jung Kook's "Seven" conquers the world, garnering over 217 million streams and 269,000 sales globally in its first week. The overwhelming support from his dedicated fans and music enthusiasts worldwide underlines his position as a global sensation and shows that another hitmaker has emerged from the band.
Jung Kook's triumph on the Billboard Global 200 chart is not only a personal victory but also a remarkable achievement for South Korean music. The rarity of his current feat is emphasized by the fact that only a few artists from his home country have managed to secure the top spot in the years since the chart's inception.
With his new worldwide smash, Jung Kook matches Blackpink's Rosé, another powerhouse from the K-pop world. In 2021, Rosé's solo track, "On the Ground," soared to the No. 1 position on the Billboard Global 200 chart, making her the first South Korean soloist to achieve this milestone. Until Jung Kook's latest achievement, she stood as the sole solo artist from the Asian nation to dominate the chart, though several others came tantalizingly close.
Both Jung Kook and Rosé’s names are now found in the music chart history books, and amazingly, they have also dominated the tally with the esteemed groups they belong to.
BTS has already accumulated a staggering seven chart-toppers on the Billboard Global 200, earning the record for the most No. 1 hits of any act. Blackpink, with their two chart-toppers, remains one of the few acts with multiple No. 1 hits on the Billboard Global 200. Altogether, Jung Kook, Rosé, BTS and Blackpink remain the only four South Korean acts to lead the ranking.
