Morgan Wallen's single "Last Night" has dominated the Hot 100 chart throughout much of 2023, securing the top position for a remarkable nine weeks, and it appears that a tenth may be on the horizon for the controversial country musician. The track has become the biggest hit in America this year, solidifying Wallen's status as a chart-topping force, despite any past controversies.

That said, even songs that make history eventually relinquish their reign and make way for new contenders. While it is challenging to precisely predict the timing of "Last Night's" dethronement, here are a few suggestions for potential future No. 1 hits.

Taylor Swift - "Karma (ft. Ice Spice)"

Taylor Swift's collaboration with rapper Ice Spice on the remix of her hit song "Karma" has propelled it to new heights on the Hot 100 chart. While the two talented women couldn't surpass the country smash hit by Wallen, "Karma" remains a force to be reckoned with, and it is currently sitting just one spot behind the top tune. Swift's ongoing promotion of the tune has contributed to its continued success at radio, and it still has the potential for strong sales. In fact, "Karma" could soon claim the coveted title of the second No. 1 song from Swift's album Midnights, following the success of her track "Anti-Hero."

BTS - "Take Two"

Currently on hiatus, the South Korean boy band BTS has temporarily taken a step back from the music scene as two of its members fulfill their mandatory military service, a requirement for all men in their nation. Thankfully, this period of absence doesn't mean that the band is remaining silent.

Although a recent release didn't make a significant impact on the charts, their latest single, "Take Two," has the potential to catapult BTS back to the pinnacle of success on the Hot 100. Released on June 9, the new track is already doing well sales-wise and on streaming platforms, which all position it as a strong contender for a notable debut on the charts. BTS has already achieved multiple No. 1 debuts on the Hot 100, so it comes as no surprise that "Take Two" could join the ranks of their previous chart-topping successes.

Rema & Selena Gomez - "Calm Down"

As "Calm Down" by Rema & Selena Gomez approaches its fortieth week on the Hot 100, it stands on the verge of a remarkable achievement. If the song manages to secure the top spot, it will have completed one of the longest journeys to reach such heights. Initially released solely by Rema, this Afrobeats earworm experienced a meteoric rise on the chart once Gomez joined forces on the track. With its catchy melody and infectious rhythm, "Calm Down" quickly became a favorite on the radio, and it has been residing within the top 10 of the Hot 100 for several weeks. Although its ascent has been gradual, the song continues to climb steadily, and should all the pieces fall into place, Rema and Gomez could clinch a chart-topping hit with this unexpected smash.

Luke Combs - "Fast Car"

Luke Combs surprised audiences with his remake of Tracy Chapman's 1988 pop standard, "Fast Car," which has unexpectedly become a massive hit for the country artist. In fact, this rendition might just be the biggest hit of Combs' career thus far. Blending elements of country and pop, Combs' take on "Fast Car" has garnered significant attention and industry projections indicate that its momentum could drive it towards the peak position on the Hot 100 chart. In fact, there is a strong possibility that it will surpass the original version's highest point of No. 6 on the charts. While reaching the No. 1 spot may not appear likely at the moment, it is worth noting that at some point, "Last Night" will inevitably lose ground. When it does, any track could surge past it, and "Fast Car" certainly has the potential to make a high-speed ascent up the rankings.
