Just hours after announcing that the song was coming, BTS member V has kicked off the first official chapter of his solo career.
The singer dropped his solo single “Love Me Again,” which serves as the first taste of his debut collection on his own, titled "Layover." The tune arrived on Wednesday, August 9, in America, but at the start of Thursday in South Korea, just as the schedule V’s record label, Big Hit Music, promised.
“Love Me Again” is a sultry and laidback affair, leaning heavily into R&B vibes. It is built largely on a simple, sparse beat, with a strumming acoustic guitar adding a flair that makes the song intriguing. The single is held together by V’s low-energy vocals, which pair perfectly with the composition.
The song arrived with a music video that matches the energy and tone of the soundtrack. “Love Me Again” is simple and slow, with the visual not attempting to speed things up or deviate from the song's essence. The video features nothing but the BTS star performing his own song karaoke-style, complete with TV monitors displaying lyrics. Strikingly, the singer appears to be in a cave, an unusual setting for karaoke, especially considering his outfits adorned with shiny sequins. It's an intriguing mix of thoughts and ideas, resulting in an ultimately fun visual experience.
The song and video help differentiate V from his BTS bandmates, many of whom have released solo songs and collections in the past few months. “Love Me Again” has a completely different look and feel than anything his friends have shared recently, which should help him stand out on his own in a crowded marketplace.
“Love Me Again” offers a preview of his upcoming six-song EP, "Layover." And it's not the only song fans will get to hear before the short album arrives in full. Tomorrow, V will drop “Rainy Days” along with another music video, also from "Layover." The EP is set to release on September 8. Fans can look forward to a third single and video, "Slow Dancing," as V continues to build excitement around his solo venture.
