Jung Kook (Big Hit Music)

Big Hit Music

Jung Kook reaches new heights in his solo career with his debut single "Seven," which now rules this week's Hot 100. The tune debuts atop the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S., thanks to its massive sales and streaming figures. As the young superstar claims his initial leader on the chart, he helps the band that made him a global sensation match some of the biggest acts of all time and nab one more accomplishment in the record books.

Jung Kook is now the second member of BTS to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, following his bandmate Jimin earlier this year. Jimin also scored a Hot 100 leader with a debut, as his song "Like Crazy" conquered the list a few months ago. During their time together (as the group is now on a break), BTS logged an impressive six champions on the Hot 100, and they may add more to this tally whenever they're ready to return to group activities.

Now that both Jimin and Jung Kook have reached the Hot 100’s summit, BTS becomes only the fifth group in history to score at least a single No. 1 on the chart and then to see multiple members do the same, according to Billboard. This achievement places them in the esteemed company of legendary acts like The Beatles, Genesis, Destiny’s Child, and The Black Eyed Peas.

The Beatles were the first act to manage this complex feat, as all four members in the band reached the peak position on the Hot 100 at least once after the group split. The Fab Four landed a record-setting 20 No. 1s on the chart during their years together, which still stands as the most of all-time.

Pop-rock band Genesis is also included in this exclusive club, demonstrating their collective and individual prowess on the charts. The group reached the summit, and then Peter Gabriel did on his own, while Mike Rutherford managed the showing with his band Mike and the Mechanics.

Destiny’s Child, one of the most iconic girl groups in history, also landed several chart-toppers on the Hot 100. After their reign as a band, both Beyonce and Kelly Rowland went on to hit the top spot on their own.

The Black Eyed Peas are the most recent addition to this prestigious club before BTS. The pop/hip-hop act pushed both "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" to No. 1 on the Hot 100, while Fergie and Will.I.Am also ruled the chart for a time without their bandmates.

In time, more members of BTS could surge up the Hot 100 and dominate the charts, as several other artists in the group are working on solo material. For the moment, the South Korean septet has made history once again, and it only took a few months for the singers to step out from the band’s shadow and prove their talent and popularity on their own.
