Doctors advised Springsteen to continue treatment for his peptic ulcer disease for the remainder of the year and the singer decided to postpone all 2023 tour dates until 2024, the band said in a social media post.

Springsteen, 74, thanked fans for the “good wishes, encouragement and support.”

Rescheduled dates for the postponed 2023 shows will be announced next week, the band said on social media, with the performances taking place at their originally scheduled venues.

Earlier this month, Springsteen announced he was postponing eight shows across seven cities—Albany, Pittsburg, Syracuse, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Columbus and Uncasville—due to his health issues. He was scheduled to return to the stage November 3 in Vancouver, but now the band won’t return until the new year. Springsteen and the E Street Band began their tour in February, after the band’s 2020/2021 tour was disrupted by the pandemic.

Peptic ulcer disease occurs when a sore develops on the lining of a person’s stomach, according to the National Institute of Health, affect between 1% and 6% of people in the U.S., and are more common in older adults.
