Bronny James, the 19-year-old son of billionaire basketball legend LeBron James, said Friday he will start the pre-draft process for the NBA while maintaining his college eligibility and also entering the NCAA transfer portal for a potential move from the University of Southern California, where he played his freshman year.
Bronny James, No. 6 of the USC Trojans, on March 14, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In an Instagram post Friday, James said he will put his name forward to potentially be drafted by an NBA team and, if he is not chosen, he will return to the NCAA and continue to play college basketball.
He will also enter the college transfer portal, which allows him to explore playing for other teams after what he called an “amazing” freshman year at USC.
James played his first game for USC on Dec. 10 after suffering an in-practice cardiac arrest that sidelined him for months and raised concerns about the condition cited as the No. 1 killer of student athletes.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
