WWE could soon get a major star power boost in the form of a returning Bray Wyatt.

According to a report from Fightful Select (h/t Wrestling Inc), Wyatt is nearing a triumphant return after battling a “life-threatening” illness: “ Wyatt is inching closer to being medically cleared to wrestle, but WWE is taking precautions to make sure that his long-term health will be stable following the illness, which they've learned was at one point both career and life-threatening.”

Wyatt has been out of action since early 2023, when he disappeared from WWE programming amid a WrestleMania 39 feud with Bobby Lashley, with that match ultimately being scrapped. Just last month, it was reported that Wyatt was anxiously awaiting a WWE return but had yet to be cleared for in-ring action.

But Wyatt’s return is finally on the horizon.

Fightful Select adds, “Wyatt's outlook is said to have improved significantly since then. Not only is Wyatt getting closer to being cleared, but creative plans have begun to be pitched for the former WWE Champion, with September mentioned as a possible return.”

For nearly a decade, Wyatt has been one of the most polarizing figures in all of WWE, and in true Wyatt fashion, his current run has been filled with more ups and downs.

Released by WWE in 2021 in a cost-cutting move, Wyatt returned to the company last October at Extreme Rules with a slightly altered gimmick that felt like a combination of his previous “Fiend” and “Eater of Word” characters. That didn’t work out exactly as planned.

As was the case at the tail end of his previous WWE stint, WWE’s creative team really didn’t do any favors in terms of Wyatt’s on-screen booking. Yet, Wyatt remained one of the WWE’s most popular stars, even surpassing Roman Reigns and The Bloodline to become the company’s No. 1 merchandise seller.

Of course, that’s an impressive feat given the recent success of stars like Reigns, Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes, who’ve benefitted from both quality booking and strong fan connections. For Wyatt, his likability and marketability are not question marks. The biggest detriment to his career has been his overly supernatural character, which is difficult to book without making his rivals look plain silly.

Wyatt’s return should boost a WWE roster that could use a few more marquee stars because the company has a long list of inactive talents, like Randy Orton and Braun Strowman, and part-time ones, like Edge and Brock Lesnar.

The potential issue with Wyatt’s return, though, is the uncertainty surrounding WWE’s ability to highlight his strengths as a talker and enigmatic star while masking his weaknesses as an in-ring performer and character that is, well, extremely difficult to book.
