New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick is leaving the team after 24 seasons, six Super Bowl victories and over 300 career wins, multiple outlets reported citing anonymous team sources.
The longtime New England coach reportedly worked out a deal with Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
The Patriots’ coach is expected to formally announce his at a press conference scheduled for Thursday, one month after the Patriots were eliminated from playoff competition.
It is unclear what Belichick’s next move will be, but The Athletic reported he would likely seek another NFL coaching job.
Although the details of his contract with the Patriots have long been kept confidential, Belichick is rumored to be the highest paid coach in the NFL, making an estimated $20 million per year.
Belichick spent the last week meeting with Patriots owner and billionaire Robert Kraft, with one source telling ESPN they “took the high road” after Belichick finished the 2023 season with a 4-13 record—his worst as a coach.
Coming off the third year with a losing record since star quarterback Tom Brady left in 2019, Bellichick told reporters on Monday he was “proud of the way the players and the team competed, but not the results, obviously.”
