President Joe Biden attacked Congressional Republicans at a fundraising event in San Francisco on Wednesday, calling them worse than the racist and segregationist lawmakers from the past for undermining democratic principles.

According to a White House pool report, Biden said he had served with “real racists…served with Strom Thurmond” and “guys that have set terrible records on race.”
“But guess what? These guys are worse,” the President said, referring to Republicans presently serving in Congress, adding that they “do not believe in basic democratic principles.”
Biden said Thurmond did “terrible things” but pointed to his vote reauthorizing the Voting Rights Act, and said, “at least you could work with some of these guys.”
The president said GOP members have shown “time and again” that they are “the party of chaos and division.”
