$100 million. That’s how much “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” cost to make, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” follows the Deetz family—which was the subject of the original “Beetlejuice”—as it returns to Winter River. Ortega, who plays the daughter of Lydia Deetz (Ryder), unintentionally opens the portal to the afterlife allowing Beetlejuice (Keaton), to enter back into the real world. The movie is receiving good reviews in addition to having a financially successful first weekend, with viewers on Rotten Tomatoes giving it an 82% score and critics giving it a 76%.

In its first weekend in theaters, Burton’s sequel outgrossed the original “Beetlejuice”’s lifetime gross, not adjusted for inflation. The 1988 film grossed $74.8 million worldwide and had a domestic opening of just over $8 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo.

The best September opening of all time is held by “It,” which debuted with a $123 million weekend in 2017. Before being knocked to third by “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” this weekend, “It: Chapter 2” held the second-best September opening, with a $91 million debut.
