Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has told the Bavarians he wishes to leave the club according to Sky Germany and offered himself to FC Barcelona in recent weeks, SPORT reports.

Pavard's contract at the Allianz Stadium expires on June 30, 2024. This season, there have been constant rumors he hopes for a change of scenery after often being played out of his preferred position by Julian Nagelsmann.

Despite Nagelsmann being dismissed, and his replacement Thomas Tuchel sometimes honoring his request to be played in central defense and not at right back where he also frequently features, the World Cup winner has reportedly explained to the recently-crowned Bundesliga champions that he wishes to move on.

With exactly 13 months to run on his contract, Pavard could be sold for a reduced fee this summer to stop him from walking on a free midway through next year.

SPORT reports that Bayern have put a ($37.5 million) price tag on the Frenchman, which Barca considered expensive considering how relatively little he has left to run on his contract after registering interest in the player a few months ago.

Still, in recent weeks, his agent Pini Zahavi, who boasts a strong relationship with Blaugrana president Joan Laporta, has reportedly approached the Catalans about a potential transfer and will work on a potential part exchange operation between Barca and Bayern to make a deal happen if needs be.

Barca's coaches prefer Julian Foyth from Villarreal who would be more expensive at €60 million ($64.3 million) thanks to his high release clause.

Amid difficulties navigating Financial Fair Play limits, Barca might go for Pavard instead if Bayern bring down their asking price.

They are impressed by the 27-year-old because of his defensive strength, plus his international experience which includes reaching two World Cup finals with the France national team and constantly playing in the Champions League which he won in 2020.

As for Foyth, he was an unused substitute in the Qatar 2022 final won against Pavard's France and has been in an out of the Argentina international fold.

Furthermore, he has featured in the UCL sporadically after falling at the last hurdle against Liverpool for Tottenham Hotspur in 2020. In 2021, though, he did lift the Europa League with his current employers.
