Celebrity footwork, defined as the choreography of artistic and lifestyle moves performers of all sorts use to attract new legions of money-waving acolytes to their "product," lies at Fred Astaire levels of complexity. Heaving up on the American horizon for the last few years has been one of the more deceptively agile lifestyle choreographers in Mr. Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, aka, "Bad Bunny."
First, the industrial record: All of 29 years of age, Mr. Martinez Ocasio has been rocking his own rather groovy Latin trap/reggaton compositions both before and after his breakthrough as a featured artist on Cardi B's number-one hit "I Like It" in 2018. To date, he has roped in no less than 10 Billboard Music Awards, 15 Latin American Music Awards and three Grammys. Musically speaking, the man has legs, and with each passing year, that velocity only increases.
Back in what we can call the late Neolithic of American pop music — an old-world musical epoch bordered by the 1930s of Louis Armstrong straight through to the infancy of badly lip-synched early Madonna music videos of the 1980s — the game would be to stick to the core business, just churning out good, finger-snappin' tunes that radio DJs would put in heavy rotation, moving the vinyl out among the great unwashed. Elvis brought some Deep South redneck flash to the program of celebrity manufacture, but for the most part, the men of music largely kept to the conservative side in fashion. And prior to Elvis, Nudie, the tailor of the Grand Ol’ Opry's excellent suits of lights, added something. In his "Western" double-breasted peaked-lapel checked suit, Hank Williams, below, sharpened the blade considerably.

Historically, again, among the men of music in this epoch, there was quite a lot of broad-strokes dabbling in a few movies on the side, as Bing (Crosby), the great Armstrong himself, Dean Martin, his main frenemy Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and latterly Madonna, hilariously and breezily did in their heyday. But that was Music Celebrity then.
Pictured below at the 2023 Met Gala, Mr. Martinez Ocasio demonstrates a fashion turn that manages a barometric pressure reading on somewhat fearless Music Celebrity now:

Unlike literally every other popular musician, rapper, Latin trap performer or not, Bad Bunny is a (sometime) WWE "live" wrestler with three matches to his credit. It's important to know that in his native Puerto Rico, WWE wrestling is enormously popular, if not quite AS popular on the American mainland. In his most recent WWE Premium Live event in San Juan at the beginning of May — an event the WWE masterminds called "Backlash" — Bad Bunny, who wrestles under his stage moniker, won a battle royal called a "San Juan Street Fight" by performing a trademark move that — in the elaborate faux-combat narrative to which all WWE matches cleave — Mr. Martinez Ocasio has dubbed the "Bunny Destroyer." Meaning, that the Bunny in question is owner/creator/executor of the "Destroyer" move, not that the Bunny is the subject of the attack. Again, it's hard to imagine other three-time Grammy winners expanding their brands in this particular swim lane.
Not least, Mr. Martinez Ocasio is a man of parts in the kitchen as well, or at least, in the marketing of a kitchen. He is a nominal restaurateur in Miami, the official northernmost South American and Caribbean capital, in the Brickell district, owning and operating the Japanese fusion steakhouse-cum-sushi spot called Gekkō. In English taxonomy the gekko is the genus of a species of wide-footed lizards, the Gekkonidae (which includes geckos) and can be used to refer to a kind of knife.
At Bad Bunny's restaurant, managed and co-owned by the redoubtable scenester "Groot" — aka, David Grutman, it's extremely fine steaks and extremely fine sushi to the point that Inter Miami president and former Emporio Armani underwear model David Beckham booked in with new Inter-Miami star Lionel Messi and his wife just after Messi won his first game for Mr. Beckham in July, a few days after "The Unveil" of Messi (and his new game shirt) at DRV PNK stadium, pictured below.

Did we mention that Mr. Martinez Ocasio is dating Kendall Jenner? It's definitely not without career risk for anybody to pop into the going-steady queue with any once-or-future Kardashian sister, brother and/or half-sibling. Because: It's quite possible to get tangled up in any number of very time-consuming television projects, magazine cover shoots, and makeup or "shapewear" product launches, not to mention the ironclad breeding duties. As the new Mr. Kourtney Kardashian, the former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, is discovering at this very moment. The production of actual musical work tends to fade, unfortunately, once the erstwhile partners have somehow gotten a leg snagged in the tractor beam and pulled aboard the Kardashian Death Star.

It's early days yet between Ms. Jenner and her rapper, and a saving defense on Mr. Martinez Ocasio's part is that he has a lot of production in the pipeline, and he remains a staunch iconoclast. Not the least of that is that, since Mr. Martinez Ocasio and Ms. Jenner are "just" dating and not pregnant (or, not yet), Mr. Martinez Ocasio — pictured below at the Grammy party with Taylor Swift in February, after collecting another gong — doesn't seem in quite the danger of stagnating as that of Mr. Barker.

That's also not just because of his chart-climbing hits are, largely, in Spanish. Rather, it's because he's a polymath, of sorts, and just so darn eclectic that any "identity" that people think they can grab doesn't really stick. The flummoxed millions will include the Kardashians themselves. Because: Bad Bunny doesn't do one thing. He does a million things at once, everywhere.
Apocryhpal or not, according to the legend, his highly entertaining moniker is supposed to have come about during childhood fashion moment: He was forced into a bunny costume that he didn’t like. Never at a loss for a way out, the young Martinez Ocasio decided to own the moment as 'the bad bunny.' Emphasis on the modifier 'Bad.'
