Charity Lawson gives Brayden Bowersthe first rose in the third episode on this season of

Charity Lawson gives roses, but she can take them away, too.

ABC

Charity Lawson is just three episodes into her Bachelorette reign, but she’s already contending with a full season’s worth of dating drama amongst the men vying for her heart.

On Monday night, the love match action kicked off where it ended last week, with a spotlight on Brayden, who took issue with Charity sharing a record-breaking kiss with Joey (which clocked in over four minutes, the longest-ever for the franchise).

As Brayden said during the second episode, the big liplock was an act that left him “doubting her character” and considering his own exit. All that remained was to see if she was considering his exit, too.

At first, things look good for him because, while his doubts were ongoing, so was Charity’s interest in him. Brayden even scored the first one-on-one date of the week—complete with a helicopter ride and a trip to see Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres.

After sharing some fun on the field, including getting some jerseys, batting a few balls and enjoying a non-record-breaking smooch, the couple got around to discussing Brayden’s lingering concerns.

“I feel really good when I get to hang out with you, spend time with you,” he told her. “And then I go through those moments of doubt when I’m away. I’m like, ‘Can I keep doing this?’”

Since spending time apart while she sees other men is pretty much par for the course on The Bachelorette, Charity confessed Brayden’s attitude freaked her out.

“What are we doing? And why are we here?” she wondered aloud in a moment when her suitor was out of earshot. “I won’t ignore the red flags or the warning signs that I see early on, so if I give him a rose, it’s simply going to boil down to what he gives to me tonight.”

Suddenly the evening portion of their date came into focus, and Brayden explained himself a bit better, connecting his current concerns to his past experience.

“I’m not going to lie, it’s scary for me, because you are dating other people and connecting with other people,” he said. “Again, that’s not a bad thing, but it’s just like I had a relationship where I was cheated on. I was invalidated. I was so put down. I was so small. When you have someone hurt you and essentially smile in your face, I don’t want to ever experience that again.”

He said that coming into The Bachelorette, he’s “walking back into that trauma. I’m forcing myself to be OK with that trauma every day.”

That, plus a promise emblazoned on a baseball that she’s “worth trying for,” was all Charity needed to give Brayden a rose right away.

But giving him an early rose wasn’t a guarantee that he would keep it. Especially after Brayden decided to run his mouth about his doubts even more when he reunited with the other men trying to win her affections.

What's said amongst "the other dudes" doesn't necessarily stay with there.

“The thing that’s hard for me, that I’m not sure I can do, is getting engaged after her dating 20 other dudes,” Brayden blabbed.

Everyone else in the room gave him a look that said, “Did you even know what you signed up for?” Except for Aaron B., whose face said, “Ooh, I’m telling Charity!”

And he did, while Brayden was elsewhere, doing a literal happy dance about his chances with Charity.

Aaron, who claimed he was just looking out for her, used his brief moment with Charity to breakdown what Brayden said, especially the issue with her dating the “other dudes.” It left Charity feeling “a little sick” and prompted her to cancel her chance to chat with a lot of those dudes.

“I’m irritated times a million,” she said about it all. “I don’t have time to continue to deal with foolishness.”

Then, in a bleep-filled rant, she vowed to “do what has not been done. I have no problem pulling this man aside. He has a f---ing rose on his chest? I will rip that s--- off.”

In theory.

When it came time to hand out the rest of the roses at the end of the night and decide about Brayden, it turned out to be much ado about nothing. Charity let her doubtful date keep his bloom, and instead said goodbye to Warwick, James, Aaron S. and Adrian.
