A Saturday night shooting in Yuma, Arizona, left two people dead and five more injured, police said Sunday, but no suspects are in custody yet—marking the latest deadly mass shooting in the United States this year.
The shooting happened shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday night at a gathering in a residential area, the Yuma Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Police have yet to release the names of the victims, but said all of them are male and between the ages 15 and 20: A 19-year-old and a 20-year-old were pronounced dead at local hospitals, a 16-year-old faced life-threatening injuries and four others ages 15, 16, 18 and 19 sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Several off-duty officers who were in the area at the time assisted with the response, Yuma police said.
Police have not taken a suspect into custody, and an investigation is currently underway.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
- That’s how many mass shootings have happened in the U.S. so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an incident with at least four injuries or deaths, not including the shooter.
