


A federal appeals court issued an order late Tuesday halting Texas from enforcing its controversial law that allows local law enforcement to arrest people they suspect entered the country illegally, just hours after the Supreme Court issued a temporary ruling allowing the state to do the same.

The late-night ruling was made by the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which had originally cleared Texas to implement the law by pausing a district court’s injunction against it.
The 2-1 ruling lifts that “administrative stay”, as it is set to begin a hearing on the constitutionality of the law on Wednesday morning.
