Tate and brother Tristan Tate won their appeal at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, the Associated Press and BBC report, with the court ruling they can be released pending trial.

The two will still be subject to “judicial controls” for 60 days, which according to the BBC includes reporting to police when ordered to, informing the police of any changes of address and restrictions on contacting their associates, alleged victims or witnesses in their case.

Tate and his brother were formally indicted in June on charges of rape, human trafficking and organized crime, with prosecutors alleging Tate and three other defendants formed a criminal gang “in order to commit the crime of human trafficking,” allegedly transporting seven women to Romania where they were allegedly sexually assaulted and subjected to violence.

Tate was first detained by Romanian authorities in December 2022, and he was moved to house arrest in March.
