Alex Murdaugh, the former attorney serving two life sentences for the murder of his wife and son, was sentenced to 40 additional years in prison Monday for nearly two dozen federal financial crimes.
Murdaugh, 55, signed a plea agreement in November after he pleaded guilty to the 22 federal counts in September, which include conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud and money laundering.
The former attorney, who was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in March for the murder of his wife and 22-year-old son, received an additional 27 year sentence in November after he pleaded guilty to similar state charges alleging he stole about $12 million.
