Will they once again be tapped as the All-Star Captains?
Today, the WNBA released the leading vote-getters through the first week of fan voting for the 2023 WNBA All-Star Weekend. Reigning two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces) and 2018 WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart (New York Liberty) lead the voting.
Wilson leads all players with 35,968 votes with Stewart (32,926) the only other player to break 32,000 votes. Brittney Griner, Aliyah Boston, and Jackie Young round out the Top Five players.
If voting ended with this tally, the top six frontcourt players and the top four guards would be named All-Star Starters. Here’s what that lineup would look like:

The Las Vegas Aces would lead all teams with three starters, followed by the Dallas Wings who have two players in the Top 10 (Arike Ogunbowale and Satou Sabally). At the moment, Las Vegas guard Chelsea Gray is on the outside looking in once again. Indiana Fever rookie Aliyah Boston is on pace to start in her first-ever WNBA All-Star Weekend.
The official 10 All-Star starters, including the two captains, will be revealed on Sunday, June 25. The league head coaches will select the 12 reserve spots to fill out the 2023 WNBA All-Star rosters.
As of now, it would take a lot to bump Wilson or Stewart out of the Top 2, which means they will likely be All-Star captains once again. We’ve seen A’ja and Stewie have fun with the WNBA Draft, including trades.
Once again, ESPN will broadcast the WNBA All-Star Team Selection Special on Saturday, July 8 (1 p.m. ET). Will we see more fun antics between the two USA Basketball teammates?
