Zelenskyy says Russia’s Black Sea fleet forced to retreat

On 16 November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia’s naval fleet was forced to retreat from the eastern part of the Black Sea following attacks on its headquarters and port infrastructure by the Ukrainian Army.

“We were able to intercept Russia’s initiative in the Black Sea and created such security conditions that force the aggressor to flee from the eastern part of the water area and try to hide warships,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram.

After a series of Ukraine’s strikes and drone attacks on the base in Sevastopol in occupied Crimea, Russian ships were transferred to ports in Novorossiysk.

“For the first time in the world, a fleet of maritime drones – Ukrainian drones has started operating in the Black Sea. As one of the main results of our actions, Russia is unable to use the Black Sea as a springboard to destabilize other regions of the world,” the president stated.

Earlier, US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink reported that the 100th ship departed via the temporary Black Sea corridor established by Ukraine in August amidst Russia’s ongoing de facto blockade of Ukrainian seaports.
