A special Evensong was held at Westminster Abbey in London to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, the Embassy of Ukraine to the UK said.
“Millions of victims of the brutal act of genocide were remembered in a place that dates back over a thousand years and witnessed numerous memorable events in world history.
Representatives of the Ukrainian faith community in the United Kingdom held an ecumenical memorial service to honor the memory of the innocent victims of this crime of the communist regime against the Ukrainian people,” the embassy wrote on Facebook.
During the event, the Westminster Abbey choir performed the Ukrainian prayer “Prayer for Ukraine”, accompanied by a candle lighting in memory of the Holodomor victims.
Members of the UK government and parliament, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps, local authorities, business and cultural leaders, the Ukrainian community, and the media also attended the solemn service.
