Unprecedented: 160 tons of Ukrainian grain dumped in Poland

Kyiv reports the largest sabotage attack hampering Ukraine’s agricultural exports in Poland since Russia’s 2022 invasion.

Unknown perpetrators spilled 160 tons of Ukrainian grain from a train at the Kotomierz railway station in Poland, marking the most significant sabotage incident against Ukraine’s agricultural exports since Russia invaded in February 2022.

Eight railcars were unsealed and had their contents spilled, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Territorial Development. The grain shipment was destined for the Port of Gdansk prior to export overseas.

“This marks the fourth case of unpunished vandalism on Poland’s rails,” said Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov.

He also noted that Ukraine is fulfilling agreements with Poland and is not exporting grain, corn or canola there. Products only transit through Poland.

Polish media reports that the railcars were carrying corn. Local authorities and police arrived at the scene.

Polish protesters have been obstructing the Ukrainian border for four months, with grain cargo first deliberately spilled in February. Polish authorities apologized for an earlier spill incident involving Ukrainian grain trucks crossing at Dorohusk.

The Polish farmers are demanding that their government and the EU prohibit the sale of agricultural products from Ukraine.
