UNESCO representatives arrived in Odesa to make a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused to the city by the Russian missile attacks from 19 July to 23, head of Odesa Oblast Military Administration Oleh Kiper reported.

“Today we met with representatives of the organization. They arrived in Odesa on a mission to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage to cultural and religious sites caused by the missile strikes carried out by Russia from July 19 to 23,” Kiper said.

“The visit of the UNESCO mission is a crucial event for Odesa, whose historic center is on the World Heritage List,“ Odesa mayor Hennadii Trukhanov noted.

On the night of July 23, Russian forces caused significant damage to the historical center of Odesa, a UNESCO-protected area, targeting and damaging 25 architectural landmarks. The buildings impacted include architectural masterpieces from the 19th and 20th centuries, a tragic loss for the global heritage.
