Ukrainian parliament approves amendments to mobilization law

Being updated…

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, has passed a bill amending the law on mobilization, military registration, and military service. The legislation aims to improve various aspects of mobilization and military service processes.

According to Yaroslav Zhelezniak, a member of parliament from the Holos party, the bill was approved in the version recommended by the committee, with all 31 proposed amendments gaining the necessary votes for confirmation. It is currently unclear whether there will be any motions to block the speaker’s decision on this matter. The bill received 283 votes in favor.

The law will come into effect one month after its publication, except for specific provisions related to changes in the fourth and fifth parts of Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine “On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization,” which will take effect eight months after publication.

On February 7, the Verkhovna Rada approved the government’s mobilization bill in the first reading. On April 9, the Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence completed its preparations for the second reading of the bill. On the same day, it was reported that the Committee on National Security and Defense had removed provisions regarding demobilization and rotation of military personnel from the government’s mobilization bill. The removal of the demobilization issue from the bill was initiated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
