Ukrainian Ombudsman Lubinets: International organizations remain silent on Russian executions of Ukrainian POWS

Ukraine has evidence of over a hundred cases of Ukrainian soldiers being executed by the Russian military after they had surrendered, Ukraine’s Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, said on social media.

Executions of Ukrainian soldiers are part of Russia’s deliberate policy of terror against Ukrainians, yet international organizations are turning a blind eye to these actions, claimed Lubinets.

The Ukrainian ombudsman emphasized that there has been neither a public nor a legal response to these events — there are still no arrest warrants for Russian war criminals. The official said that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are doing everything possible to document such crimes.

Lubinets has officially handed over materials on the executions to Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Tatyana Moskalkova.

“It’s clear that we cannot expect a reaction from Russia regarding the violations of the Geneva Conventions, but my task is to document these facts. We are doing everything we can to ensure the international community becomes aware of them,” he stated.

Earlier, the head of the Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on Freedom of Speech, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, revealed that Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchyna, who had been missing since 2023, had died in Russian captivity.

According to information from Russian authorities, her death happened during a transfer from a Taganrog to a Moscow detention facility.

Yurchyshyn said that Russia has already killed 12 civilian journalists and is holding many more hostages.
