Ukrainian official says Russian attacks kill 33 education workers in Donetsk Oblast since 2022

Russian shelling has killed 33 education workers in Donetsk Oblast since the onset of the all-out war, said Tetyana Sidasheva, the director of the Department of Education and Science of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, according to UkrInform.

Donetsk has been under constant shelling from Russian forces, with the occupiers killing and injuring civilians almost daily, destroying homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure, including energy and gas facilities. Donetsk Oblast has the longest frontline, spanning about 300 km.

“Overall, 33 education workers have died in Donetsk. These are civilians, of whom 16 are educational facilities employees. Additionally, there are currently 123 teachers serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and unfortunately, 17 of them have already been killed,” Sidasheva stated.

She clarified that these figures do not include the number of casualties in Mariupol and Volnovakha.

Moreover, since the start of the war in 2022, Russian troops have damaged 871 educational institutions in the region. Unfortunately, this statistic continues to rise, Sidasheva said.

Earlier, Ukrainian authorities have ordered a mandatory evacuation of the civilian population in the region. In many settlements close to the frontline, forced evacuations of children and their families are being conducted.
