Ukraine’s 36th Separate Brigade has reported that the country’s marines have received German Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles.

The vehicles have demonstrated impressive capabilities on the battlefield, and their deployment within marine units will significantly enhance Ukraine’s defenses, firepower, and troop protection during transportation.

The brigade’s images showed crew training on Marders, driving, repair, and maintenance, Militarnyi reported.

In addition to the training, infantry soldiers also conducted exercises on the vehicles, practicing coordination and joint assault maneuvers.

Overall, Ukraine has received 130 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles from Germany. These vehicles have undergone necessary repairs and upgrades at Rheinmetall facilities in Unterlüß and Kassel, where the company’s main production facilities are located.

The Marder IFV is armed with a 20-mm Rh202 automatic cannon and a co-axially mounted 7.62-mm MG3 machine gun on top of its two-person turret. The Rh202 cannon fires 20×139 mm rounds. The vehicle can carry ten soldiers, including three crew members.

Previously, the German company Rheinmetall supplied Ukraine with an additional 20 Marder IFVs.

This recent batch has brought the total number of vehicles sent to Ukraine to approximately 200, with over half being the Marder 1A3 model. Additionally, Rheinmetall has sent Leopard main battle tanks to Ukraine.
