The losses of the Russian army as a result of the strike included 19 killed, including the deputy commander of a Russian military unit, and 12 wounded, including the unit’s commander, according to Ukraine’s military.
Ukraine’s military reportedly conducted the strike using multiple launch rocket systems. Further details on the strike, including the type of missiles used, have not been disclosed.
Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence representative, Andriy Yusov, said it was planned work by the Ukrainian security and defense forces. He added that this was not the first strike and announced that similar operations would continue.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on its military unit strike in Olenivka.
Olenivka has been under the constant control of illegal Russian armed groups of the so-called “DNR” since 4 September 2014.
On the night of 28-29 July 2022, Russia deliberately killed the Ukrainian POWs in the detention center in the Russian-occupied town of Olenivka, Donetsk Oblast. The Russians were holding Ukrainian POWs from Azovstal there, the last stronghold of the Ukrainian garrison of Mariupol that fell under Russian control in May 2022.
