Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) said on 30 September 2025 that they struck the radar of a Russian S-400 Triumf air defense system in occupied Crimea overnight. The unit posted the report on Facebook, calling it a symbolic blow to one of Moscow’s most expensive weapons.
Ukraine says SOF struck S-400 radar in occupied Crimea
The Special Operations Forces Command reported that its units hit the radar of a Russian S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile system overnight on 30 September. The post described the radar as the “eyes” of the system, essential for detection and guidance. Without it, the entire complex loses combat capability, the command said. It stressed the symbolism of drones disabling a weapon built to shoot them down.
In its Facebook post, the SOF Command did not disclose the exact model of the radar reportedly hit. It said only that its units “continue inflicting significant losses on the enemy, accelerating its inability to conduct further combat operations.”
The command signed off with its motto, “Always beyond the line!”
Crimea in focus
Militarnyi earlier noted that one of the key objectives for Ukrainian defenders is to blind the air defenses of Russian occupiers ahead of strikes on critical targets with missiles and attack drones. These operations are carried out by various units within Ukraine’s Defense Forces to degrade the aggressor’s ability to continue military actions.
Recent operations in occupied Crimea included the destruction of two Russian transport aircraft and two radars, a confirmed strike disabling a Pantsir anti-air system and a radar, and hits on three Russian helicopters and a radar confirmed by satellite imagery.
Lately, Ukrainian drones also struck an FSB-linked resort complex allegedly housing high-ranking Russian officials, killing three, and earlier destroyed more S-400 radars, a Skala-M radar, and a prized Nebo-M radar system.
