Ukraine’s budget shortfall in March due to Polish border blockade amounts to $160 million

Polish farmers’ blockade of Ukraine’s state border has led to a loss of $160 million for the state budget in March. This blockade, initiated in February, has disrupted truck movement, impacting Ukraine’s economy and benefiting Russia.

Due to the Polish farmers’ blockade of Ukraine’s state border, the state budget did not receive 6.3 billion UAH in March. This was reported in Telegram on 31 March by Danylo Hetmantsev, the head of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy, according to Ukrinform.

Following late last year’s end of a Polish truckers’ blockade disrupting Ukrainian aid and goods supplies, including drone parts, Polish farmers launched nationwide protests in February. They continue blocking all six border checkpoints, affecting truck movement and disrupting ports and roads. This action benefits Russia by undermining Ukraine’s economy amid its two-year war.

On the last day of March, we have the revenue result for March 2024 from payments administered by the customs office. The indicative figure of 49.662 billion UAH [$1,267 billion] set by the Ministry of Finance has been fully met at 49.708 billion UAH [$1.268 billion]. 100% execution. Despite the blockade of the state border, which resulted in the budget not receiving 6.3 billion UAH, [160.8 million]” Hetmantsev noted.
