Ukraine rises to the top three chocolate exporters to the EU in 2023

Ukraine became one of the top three chocolate exporters to the European Union in 2023, contributing 13% to the total imports, as reported by Eurostat.

Ukraine has become one of the top three exporters of chocolate to the European Union in 2023. According to the latest data from Eurostat, Ukraine accounted for 13% of the total imports, Ukraine Open For Business reports.

In 2023, Ukraine became a top three chocolate exporter to the EU, supplying 22,000 tons (13% share), trailing only Switzerland (62,000 tons, 36% share) and the UK (61,000 tons, 36% share).

At the same time, EU countries exported 867,000 tons of chocolate and chocolate bars to foreign markets. Germany was the largest exporter, with 221,000 tons (26% share), followed by the Netherlands with 123,000 tons (14% share), and Poland with 115,000 tons (13% share). Belgium, renowned for its sweets, exported 96,000 tons (11%).

The five largest non-EU export partners for chocolate were the United Kingdom (315,000 tons, 36%), the United States (72,000 tons, 8%), Russia (65,000 tons, 7%), Canada (31,000 tons, 4%), and Australia (27,000 tons, 3%).

In 2023, Ukrainian chocolate exports reached 53,400 tons, valued at $191 million. Customs statistics show that in December, 4,800 tons worth $18 million were exported, contributing to the annual total.
