Ukraine offers Northern European countries to train one Ukrainian battalion each

Ukraine has proposed a new initiative called the “Northern Brigade” to Nordic countries, inviting them to each prepare and equip a Ukrainian battalion, reports European Pravda.

The announcement followed Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Oleksandr Polishchuk’s recent visit to Norway. The proposal comes as Ukraine seeks international support in the ongoing war. Its focus is on strengthening its military capabilities through partnerships with allied nations.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, during a seminar for the Nordic defense industry, Polishchuk addressed defense directors from Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland, and Sweden, urging them to engage in bilateral cooperation and invest in Ukraine’s defense industry.

“Defense companies and countries in Northern Europe, by joining the ‘Northern Brigade’ project, will have the opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of Nordic defense industry products on a real battlefield,” Polishchuk said.

The deputy minister emphasized the mutual benefits of the project, suggesting it would provide Nordic countries with a chance to test their defense equipment in actual combat conditions.

This initiative aligns with Ukraine’s repeated calls for partners to allocate funds to produce necessary weapons for the Ukrainian defense industry.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have already received 18 “Bohdana” artillery units funded by Denmark, demonstrating existing cooperation in this area.
