Ukraine has begun constructing the main water pipeline for the regions affected by the explosion of the Kakhovka dam.

The project involves the construction of water pipelines connecting other water reservoirs with the Ukrainian cities of Kryvyi Rih, Marhanets, Nikopol, Tomakivka, and others. The project is planned to restore water supply to more than 1 million people from Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolayiv, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.

The water supply system will consist of 3 main water supply lines of almost 150 km length.

Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure, Oleksandr Kubrakov, said that international partners were involved in the procurement and logistics of pipes of the required diameter and large capacity pumps.

Such a high pace of work is possible with absolute trust and cooperation between communities, regional and central authorities,” he added.

As was reported, Russia blew up the Kahovka dam in southern part of Ukraine’s Dnipro River on 6 June 2023. 600 square kilometers of land were flooded while several Ukrainian cities and hundreds of villages lost water supply.
