“Time is short”: Barbra Streisand, Sean Penn, Imagine Dragons demand US help Ukraine now

Over 30 prominent figures, including artists, activists, and scholars, have signed a joint statement urging the US Congress to vote in favor of providing aid to Ukraine, CNN reports.

Despite the Senate passing the bill in February, additional military support for Ukraine has been stalled in Congress for six months.

The statement was signed by singer Barbra Streisand, historian Timothy Snyder, actor Misha Collins, philosopher Francis Fukuyama, the band Imagine Dragons, actress Alyssa Milano, actor Sean Penn, actor Viggo Mortensen, actress Katheryn Winnick, and others. They argue that Ukrainians are fighting for their existence against Russian atrocities, and that Ukrainian armed forces are defending American interests.

“They are doing things that Americans cannot do for themselves. By absorbing the entire Russian attack, they are making other wars in Europe impossible. They deter China without in any way provoking Beijing,” the appeal states

Despite Russia rebuilding its army and preparing for a new offensive, Congress has not passed legislation to support Ukraine.

The statement emphasizes that Ukraine can protect itself and bring global stability, but failure to support them invites catastrophe for both Ukraine and the US. With Congress back in session, the signatories urge immediate action.

“Time is short, and new dangers can arrive very quickly. Together, we call upon Congress to do the right thing – right now. Support Ukraine,” the statement concludes.
