Joshua Mayers, 34, the Canadian paramedic was killed while helping Ukraine in treating soldiers wounded at the battlefield, his family said, according to The Canadian Press.
Currently, relatives of the paramedic are unsure if or when they will be able to bring his body back to Canada but are planning a celebration of life next week in Edmonton.
His family said Mayers went to Ukraine in September after working as a paramedic in Alberta and tragically lost his life two months later near the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.
Recently, the Knyha Pamiyati (Memory Book of the Fallen for Ukraine) civic group said at least 30,000 Ukrainian defenders have been killed as of November 2023.
