In the early hours of 16 October, Russian forces launched an attack on an industrial facility in Ternopil Oblast, the western part of Ukraine, resulting in a fire.

While Russian leadership denies targeting civilian, energy, and industrial infrastructure, Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify these strikes as war crimes by the Russian Federation, emphasizing their deliberate nature.

The Head of Ternopil Regional Military Administration, Vyacheslav Nehoda, said there were no casualties or injuries from the incident.

An air raid alert occurred from 00:35 to 02:50 on 16 October.

The fire response involved 45 rescue workers, 12 units of special equipment, and 12 police officers.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian military forces attacked Ukraine with 136 strike UAVs overnight into 16 October.

Ukraine’s air defense destroyed 51 drones, and 60 drones were locationally lost. Over 20 were still in Ukrainian airspace as of 7:30 am.

Russia’s military struck Donetsk Oblast with an S-300/400 surface-to-air guided missile from occupied Donetsk territory and Chernihiv Oblast with a Kh-59 guided air missile from Kursk Oblast overnight.

Some 51 Russian drones were shot down in Sumy, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Ternopil, Kherson, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Chernivtsi oblasts.
