Russian morning attack killed 26, injured at least 132, damaged maternity and oncology hospitals, lyceums, kindergarten, mall, administrative buildings and numerous buildings (photos)

Overnight and on the morning of 29 December, Russia launched a massive air attack on Ukraine, which resulted in killing 26 and injuring 132 in numerous cities all across the country.

Kyiv

Russian missile attack on Kyiv killed five people and injured 30, Kyiv City Military Administration reported at about 4 pm on 29 December.

The morning massive attack resulted in damaging residential buildings, private houses, warehouses, an office center, car parks and a metro station in different neighborhoods of Kyiv, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration Serhii Popko said

Lviv

On the morning of 29 December, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 10 of 15 missiles over Lviv Oblast, Lviv Oblast head Maksym Kozytskyi said.

Russian missiles hit a high-rise building in Lviv, killing 44-year-old Viktor Kobzystyi, Ukrainian basketball player, coach, and international master of sports of Ukraine, Head of the Sports Department at Lviv City Council Anton Nikulin said on Facebook.

The morning attack also resulted in injuring 17 people, including a child. Five people were hospitalized. Most of the victims were injured by shrapnel from windows that were blown out by the blast wave.

As a result of the attack, 18 residential buildings, two lyceums, and a kindergarten were damaged. Specialized services are still working at the strike site and looking for possible other victims.

Russian missiles also hit an infrastructure facility in the Drohobych district in Lviv Oblast. Reportedly, there were no casualties.

Overnight into 29 December, the Air Command West of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down 8 of 14 Shahed drones over Lviv Oblast, according to Kyzytskyi.

Dnipro

Ukrainian defense forces shot down 18 missiles over Dnipro Oblast, Serhii Lysak said, the head of Dnipro Oblast.

The Russian attack killed six people and injured 28, including a 1.5-year-old child.

The missile strike destroyed a maternity hospital, a shopping center, a private house and damaged eight administrative buildings, at least two dozen high-rise buildings, and cars.

There was also a hit in Novomoskovsk, which injured two people and damaged 13 private houses.

Zaporizhzia

As of 5 pm on 29 December, the death toll of the Russian morning attack on Zaporizhzhia increased to 7, Zaporizhzhia Oblast head Yurii Malashko said. The number of injured increased to 13.

According to Malashko, the attack damaged several industrial facilities, a private house, and multi-story buildings.

Kharkiv

Russian forces also hit Kharkiv, killing three employees of the industrial company and injuring 11 people, Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration reported

In addition, the premises of Kharkiv Regional Oncology Center were damaged.

According to Oleh Syniehubov, from 5 am to 8 am, the Russian military shelled Kharkiv three times with over 20 missiles: S-300, X-22, and Iskander missiles.

Odesa

The death toll of Russia’s early morning missile attack on Odesa rose to four, Odesa Oblast head Oleh Kiper said. According to Kiper, 22 people were injured, including two children (6 and 8 years old) and a pregnant woman.

As a result of overnight and morning attacks by the Russian military in Odesa, 21 residential buildings were damaged, including two private houses. All the rest are multi-storey buildings.

Overnight on 29 December, Russia launched what Ukraine’s Air Force called “the most massive air attack” against Ukraine, employing 158 missiles and suicide drones, targeting numerous cities all across the country. Ukrainian air defenders destroyed 114 air assets during the attack, according to the Air Force’s report.

According to the Air Force’s preliminary data, Russians used 158 means of air attack against Ukraine last night, while Ukrainian air defenses destroyed 114 of those:

  • 87 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles.
  • 27 Shahed-136/131 one-way attack UAVs.
