Russia targets energy and railway infrastructure in frontline regions leaving thousands civilians without electricity and delaying trains

Russian forces attacked Ukraine with a large-scale drone offensive overnight on 27 September, striking multiple regions across the country and causing damage to residential areas, commercial facilities, railway and energy infrastructure. The assault resulted in one civilian injury and widespread destruction.

Russia conducts daily attacks on Ukrainian cities, particularly frontline regions like Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia, as well as targets deep inside Ukrainian territory including Kyiv and Lviv. While Moscow claims to target military-industrial facilities, the strikes frequently hit civilian infrastructure including homes, hospitals, schools, and transport systems. These attacks aim to exert military pressure, demoralize the population, and degrade critical infrastructure to weaken Ukraine’s resistance capacity.

Ukrainian forces intercept majority of incoming drones

Russian forces deployed 115 unmanned aerial vehicles in the 27 September attack, including Iranian-designed Shahed, “Gerbera” and other drone types.

Ukrainian Air Force Command reported that approximately 70 of the launched drones were Shahed models.

Ukrainian defense forces coordinated a multi-layered response involving aviation units, anti-aircraft missile systems, electronic warfare divisions, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups.

Air defense systems neutralized 97 of the 115 incoming drones, though 17 strike drones reached their targets across six locations, while debris from intercepted drones fell in two additional areas.

One civilian injured in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

A 39-year-old woman sustained injuries in Pokrovska community of Synelnykivskyi district following a direct drone strike on eastern Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

The attack triggered multiple fires that damaged private residences, with one house completely engulfed in flames. The blaze spread to farm buildings, a summer kitchen, garages, and vehicles.

The strikes also damaged an administrative building, museum, and retail establishment in the area. Separate FPV drone attacks targeted the district center and Pokrovska community in Nikopol district during evening hours, causing damage to an industrial facility and igniting dry vegetation.

Russian strike damages railway infrastructure in Odesa Oblast

Russian drones targeted railway infrastructure in southern Odesa Oblast, causing operational disruptions but no casualties among railway workers or passengers. Ukrainian Railways confirmed damage to facilities and reported schedule delays, though train services have resumed operations.

Zaporizhzhia faces power outages following evening strikes

Russian forces launched drone attacks against southern Zaporizhzhia city around 11:00 p.m. on 26 September, leaving nearly 9,000 residents without electricity.

However, by 04:00 a.m., regional authorities restored power to more than 95% of affected subscribers, with restoration efforts continuing for remaining areas.

The strikes also ignited a fire in a retail facility covering 50 square meters, which emergency responders quickly extinguished.

The attack damaged two passenger vehicles and neighboring structures while targeting civilian infrastructure.

Critical infrastructure targeted in Vinnytsia Oblast

Russian drones struck an unspecified critical infrastructure facility in central Vinnytsia Oblast, sparking a fire at the location. Emergency services responded to the incident, with authorities confirming no civilian casualties resulted from the attack.
