Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) has reported that on 4 October 2024, around 7 a.m., a car explosion in the temporarily occupied city of Enerhodar, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, resulted in the death of Andrii Yuriyovych Korotkyi, who held the position of “head of physical security” at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s HUR has been actively targeting collaborators and quisling officials in Russian-occupied areas. Since the outset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, thrre were multiple reports on successful operations by Ukrainian partisans and allegedly intelligence units, including the assassination of several key collaborators.

According to the HUR, Korotkyi was a collaborator involved in organizing and committing war crimes and repressions against Ukrainians under Russian occupation in Enerhodar. The intelligence agency stated,

“After the capture of the ZNPP, he voluntarily cooperated with the Russian invaders, providing them with lists of plant employees and their personal data, identifying citizens with pro-Ukrainian positions.”

They also alleged that he “constantly organized events aimed at supporting the Russian occupation army.”

The intelligence report further noted that Korotkyi was a member of Vladimir Putin’s “United Russia” party and headed Russia’s so-called “council of deputies” in Enerhodar.

The HUR did not directly claim responsibility for assassinating the collaborator but concluded its statement with a clear warning:

“The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reminds that every war criminal awaits just retribution.”

Update:

Russia’s Investigative Committee confirmed the assassination of the collaborator in Enerhodar, Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

According to their statement, on 4 October 2024, an improvised explosive device was placed under the vehicle of the head of the security service pass group at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, parked on Kashtanov Boulevard.

Despite HUR’s video showing that the explosion occurred on the move, the Investigative Committee claims that the device allegedly detonated when the individual entered the vehicle, leading to injuries that resulted in his death in the hospital.
