Russia’s Black Sea Fleet Base was targeted by drones. On 24 September, the city of Novorossiysk in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, where the Russian ship had been relocated from temporarily occupied Crimea, came under a large-scale attack by drones and unmanned naval vessels, said the city’s mayor, Andrey Kravchenko.
The base, home to fleet ships equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, was specifically targeted in the unmanned attacks. The strikes caused explosions and a fire at the base. The Russian command relocated most of the Black Sea Fleet from Sevastopol in Crimea to Novorossiysk in 2023 after the Sevastopol base became vulnerable to Ukrainian drone and missile strikes.
Kalibr missile strikes on Ukraine
Russian Kalibr missile strikes have inflicted significant casualties in Ukraine since 2022. In May 2025, a massive attack killed over 10 people, including three children, and injured more than 60. The missiles have a range of up to 2,600 km and carry a warhead weighing 450 kg.
Between April and August, dozens of civilians were killed and hundreds were injured in various attacks using Kalibr and other Russian missiles. Many of these strikes targeted residential areas, infrastructure, warehouses, and businesses, causing widespread destruction and civilian suffering.
Novorossiysk under attack
Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev described the strike as a “horrific attack by the Kyiv regime,” saying drones hit the city center. Preliminary reports indicated two fatalities and three injuries, with damage to five residential buildings and a hotel.
